MANUFACTURING EQUIPMENT
More than twenty years ago, the O&O Mdc started to analyse and perfect the IOL manufacturing operation and is still actively pursuing that goal today.
LABSEALER FOR IOL
HOLSTER OR BLISTER
A user-friendly sealing machine made in cooperation with Tommy Nielsen (DK) for sealing either four Holsters or one Blister under Laminar Flow Hood.
Tommy Nielsen and O&O Mdc have achieved their goal by designing and manufacturing a highly efficient, cost-effective small “LabSealer” machine made for critical environment like Laminar Flow Hood. Built-in with two elements, the sealing unit and the PLC unit, it allows reducing the sealing unit size to minimum with a round shape that will not disturb your laminar Flow Hood environment.
The PLC unit, placed out of Laminar Flow Hood, can be located either in or out the Clean Room. The PLC function can easily be set-up allowing Good Validation Practices as it allows setting three sealing parameters, temperature to 1°C, air pressure to 0.2 bars and time of contact per 1/10 of second.
The sealing tool can be changed easily in few seconds to enable to seal either four Holsters (as shown in the photo below) or one polypropylene Blister for receiving the holster.
Some good reasons for using specific IOL Cleaning Tweezers:
- The IOL Cleaning Tweezers are specifically designed for handling the IOL during production with no risks of lens damage.
- Suitable for all material as hydrophobic or hydrophilic IOLs as well as old PMMA lenses.
- Not limited to lens diameter. Easy to use for lens inspection.
- Easy handling.
- Can be used in automatic cleaning with multi US baths and drying units as per photo on the right.
- Easy to clean and even sterilise.

ERTALYTE® MANDRELS FOR
DAC ALM & MLC SERIES
Ertalyte® Mandrel made for IOL manufacturing with DAC lathe
Ertalyte® is an unreinforced, semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET-P). It is manufactured from proprietary resin grades made by Quadrant. Grinded to perfection at the lowest tolerances, the mandrels are used and machined by a DAC ALM lathe or MLC Combo machine equipped with “Dead Length” collet.
Made to facilitate your IOL manufacturing process, the O&O Mandrels will allow you to use water soluble wax.
- MANUFACTURING PROCESS USING O&O ERTALYTE® MANDREL:
- Take an O&O Ertalyte® Mandrel (1) and lathe it as a collet on DAC lathe (2);
- Heat the mandrel to 65°C and place the cold 16.0 mm blank into the mandrel, which will be held in place by contraction.
- Lathe (4) with a 15.8 mm seat, then mill (5) the blank from the back side.
- Take a O&O Ertalyte® Mandrel (6) and lathe it as a mirror image of the back side of your lens (with a 0.02 mm gap for wax) on DAC lathe (7), then drill a 3.0 mm hole for wax overflow;
- Heat the mandrel to 65°C and dispense water soluble wax on the first side of the machined blank (9) and place manually the two mandrels face to face;
- Deblock automatically, using the outside groove on the first side mandrel;
- Place the second side mandrel with its waxed blank in the DAC lathe (10);
- Lathe (11) the front side of your lens,
- Deblock your lens by any method.
The O&O Mdc Misting System adds a finely metered amount of cooling liquid to the compressed air spread below the lathing diamond tools.
The compressed air passes through an aperture and the resulting vacuum transports liquid to the upper inspection glass. The drops of cooling liquid are emulsified creating a micro-mist as the air passes through a nozzle.

IOL POLISHING AND
CLEANING SOAP
O&O Mdc is an IOL process engineering company, which also specializes in manufacture and supply of semi-finished IOLs and Half-Moulded polymers for being used by the IOL industry only.
More than twenty years ago, the O&O Mdc started to analyse and perfect the IOL manufacturing operation and is still actively pursuing that goal today.
O&O Mdc extensive experience in this turnkey business is being used today to develop the new “O&O mdc” Soaplish, a solution used to polish both hydrophobic and hydrophilic IOLs.
This innovative surface tension solution drives the polishing process from the pre-conditioning of glass beads and barrels to the polishing of the IOLs.
In fact, the O&O Mdc Soaplish is used during the pre-conditioning and re-conditioning of glass beads and barrels, the cleaning of glass beads and the polishing of intraocular lenses.
The O&O Mdc Soaplish polishing solution ensures the benefits of superb surface quality and very high results levels.

AMCC GFT-M AND GFT-L FOR HYDROPHOBIC IOL MACHINING
Cold air-jet for hydrophobic IOLs machining:
A cold air-jet > (- 12°C and 7 bars) is blown along
or under the tools.
AMCC MFC-1385-IOL COMPRESSION TESTER
> Measurement of compression force
In accordance with ISO 11979-3 appendix A
The IOL, in an uncompressed state, is placed
between 2 horizontal HDPE anvils.
The section is immersed in a solution kept at in
situ conditions. The anvils are then coaxially
closed to the prescribed diameter*. The
movement of the optic body is not restricted.
After stabilisation, the compression force
exerted on the haptics is measured to within a
tolerance of ±0.01mN.
* Standard diameters : 10 mm and 11mm. On
request, anvils can be made in other sizes.
